Starting today until April 23rd, the Australasian Quilt Convention is being held at the Royal Exhibition Building. As you probably already know, it is situated in the Carlton Gardens, Melbourne. Better still, this event is billed as Australia’s quilting event of the year. In fact, there’ll be Mexican and Australian flora and fauna quilts on display. Also, modern quilts direct from the USA and many more will feature too. In fact we think you will be amazed at the glorious colours and beautiful fabrics on display. Furthermore, you can attend day and evening lectures. Also social events. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. This event is not to be missed for its beauty and uniqueness. Have you heard of Slide Night Boroondara – Australian Heritage Festival 2017? Our much loved Camberwell library is hosting the event. Basically, they are offering you and your elderly loved one a trip back into the past. In fact, you might considers it a wander down memory lane before television took over our lives! For example, you remember the family slide night? Well, they are offering their residents fun with pizza whilst you watch a 35mm projector and selected slides from the Boroondara collection and beyond. Furthermore, they invite you to bring some of your own family slides to share. Think of the fun you will have, not to mention the tears. Perhaps it would be wise to bring along a box or two of tissues as well.
This event is mostly suited for adults. Also, Transport in Boroondara Photo Competition will announce the winners of the ‘Shutter Speed’ competition at this event at 7pm. If your elderly loved one has a passion for music, we have the event for you! Did you know that Camberwell Chorale is presenting G. F. Handel’s ‘Samson’? In fact, the event will take place on Sunday 30th April 2017, from 02:30 PM until 05:30 PM. Further, Hawthorn Arts Centre, located on Burwood Road in Hawthorn, is hosting the event so it is well place for Camberwell area locals. Better still, it is billed as one of Handel’s finest dramatic works. In fact, this three-act oratorio is sure to please your elderly music lover. Perhaps most impressively, the event is under the direction of Musical Director Douglas Heywood OAM. Plus, it will feature the Camerata Orchestra and leading Melbourne soloists.
G. F. Handel’s ‘Samson’ premiered in London’s Covent Garden on February 18th, 1743. Then, following its huge success there, it was performed for 9 subsequent concert seasons! Sadly it is rarely performed in Australia. That’s why you and your elderly loved one will not want to miss such a great opportunity to hear this exciting work.
