The Spring racing Carnival has been called ‘Australia’s greatest get together’. Furthermore it is known as the world’s best and the pinnacle of horse racing. Also, it is the ultimate racing period for Group 1 thoroughbred racing in Australia. This event draws in the best from the international racing scene. It is held in October and November each year.
The major events include the BMW Caulfield Cup, The William Hill Cox Plate and the Emirates Melbourne Cup. Furthermore, the Spring Racing Carnival has the racing that matters. With all involved vying for the prestige of winning the major events. Additionally, this is where reputations are carved and legends are born.
Also, numerous group races take place during August and September at metropolitan tracks. These are Flemington, Caulfield and Moonee Valley. The Spring Carnival officially starts on the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington, one week after the AFL Grand Final. The Spring Racing Carnival officially ends on the final day of the Sandown Carnival, Eclipse Stakes day.
Everyone involved works around the clock preparing their horses for the big day. From the stable hands who rise at dawn, to the relentless task ahead for the trainers. They and the jockeys daily push the boundaries of endurance. However, the horses are the real stars of the day. These magnificent animals display beauty of form, panache and courage. They are never to be outshone!
The punters arrive, dressed to the nines in the latest fashions. Both the gentlemen and the ladies eager to put their best foot forward. After all, it is a social experience. Furthermore the caterers have an opportunity to showcase their delicious food and drinks. From the much loved old staples, to whatever is new and trending this year. There are also restaurants, marquis’ and private parties.
Anticipation and excitement fill the air. After the arduous grind of winter, everyone is happy to welcome spring with open arms. Even for those who are not hard-core punters, the days are filled with celebration and joy. The picnics on the grass are provided by the bounty that is disgorged by the car boots. The champagne flows, accompanied by goodies such as smoked salmon, seafood, cold chicken, sandwiches and whatever else takes your fancy.
