Hi folks,Chef Joshua Cooper here. Food is such an important part of our lives. Of course, that doesn’t stop when you enter aged care. At least, not at Gold Age! In fact, it should not only be nutritious, it should be fun! Here’s a little update on what we have been up to recently. I got together the chefs from our residences for some fun, educational and inspirational cooking. Also, we brought in Chef Tibor. Tibor is a chef/educator/mentor/blogger and food photographer whose hospitality experience spans three continents. Through his hugely successful Facebook page, Tibor’s Kitchen, he has become the go-to expert on texture-modified meals for the health and aged care industries.
First, we did some training on moulded textured food. This type of food is nutritional, attractive and easy to eat. Think textured modified pizza, sandwich and main meals. The chefs were really engaged. In fact, it got them thinking about how they can make a better dining experience for residents with swallowing difficulties. That got so inspiring that I have now tasked them, over the next 2 weeks, with creating a plan of action! The idea is to identify how they will implement this type of food in their kitchens, Also, they need to identify hurdles they will need to overcome. Plus, they need to identify what goals they wish to achieve in the long term.
I’ll keep you informed on how we progress. Until next time, Chef Josh has left the kitchen!
